Host Housing
Opera Maine provides housing for 25-30 singers and technical crew who are involved in our productions each summer.
Host housing is a vital contribution to our ability to produce professional opera and we appreciate your consideration. Hosting is a great way to get to know some wonderful, talented people and learn a bit more about what really goes into putting opera on the stage! If you are traveling or out of town, members of the Opera Maine team make excellent house-sitters and plant caretakers.
For our visiting artists and crew, the opportunity to enjoy the warmth of a private home and the hospitality of our hosts greatly enriches their stay in Maine.
Here is what is involved:
· A home in or close to Portland
· A fully furnished private bedroom and bathroom (may be a shared bath if housing multiple singers)
· Kitchen privileges
· Laundry privileges
· Wifi
What is not involved:
· Host is not responsible for providing meals
· Host is not responsible for providing transportation
· Host does not need to have a piano
We hope you will consider being a host this summer!
In 2024 the Studio Artists will begin their stay June 17, others arrive July 1. All but a few will remain until July 29.

After completing the form linked above you, you will be contacted by a member of Opera Maine’s Artist Experience Committee to set up a visit of your home and answer your questions.
Donate the use of your vehicle
People generously offer housing in surrounding towns, but few of our artists or crew arrive with cars.
By donating the use of a vehicle during an artists stay you provide them and Opera Maine with vital transportation.
Tokens of our appreciation
Hosts and lenders of cars receive:
Two complimentary tickets to our summer productions.
An invitation to our garden party in July where they will meet the cast as well as other opera lovers.
Acknowledgment in the mainstage program and on our website
