Opera Maine‘s production of Marriage of Figaro, which received rave reviews, featured several cast members with ties to the University of Southern Maine’s School of Music.

The character of Antonio (the Count’s gardener and lead character Susanna’s “drunk uncle”) was played to great comic effect by artist faculty in voice, baritone Scott Wheatley. The chorus includes performance major, tenor Jared Vigue, as well as artist faculty in voice David Goulet‘s student Rosemary Crimp, who is featured as a bridesmaid.

The famous and much-beloved opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart premiered in 1786 and was based on a comedic play by Pierre de Beaumarchais. It pokes fun at the hypocrisy of the upper class and features a tangled web of relationships, mistaken identities and gorgeous music.
